Storyboards from CTN Portfolio
Here's what I showed recruiters and interviewers at the CTN Animation Expo. Original story. I received lots of constructive criticism and praise. I'll be posting revisions to this story, as well as additional story sequences, after the holidays.
Speaking of which, CTN was spectacular! Great atmosphere for getting to know other professionals (all of whom were far more experienced and awe-inspiring than myself). Big enough to feel like an event, but small enough to feel chummy.

Children's Illustrated Books Style
Diversifying with some rough shots at illustrating in a style suitable for illustrated books. Each of these took 1-2 hours.

Head study

Painted this from a photo, without using the color picker. It took a couple of hours. I got the idea from Sam Nielson. Hopefully I'll get faster and more accurate as I repeat this exercise

Digital Painting

My final for Sam Nielson's digital painting class.
In retrospect, floating islands aren't such a novelty. Castle in the Sky and everything before and after, especially in Japan, has them. Even the Ducktales movie has them. I'm finally admitting to myself that they're not as cool and unique as I've long believed.
Also there are painting problems with the falling hero. He really got the least amount of love in this painting, which is unfortunate, since it's about him losing. And although I'm happy with the composition, I fudged a lot of perspective rules to make it work, like with the villain's figure, and the ledges he's standing on, and the larger islands (of which we only see the bottom halves) in the middle ground.
In the end, I learned a lot about color, light, and process.
